비는 하늘에서 갑자기 '생기는' 게 아니라,
지구 위의 물이 끊임없이 순환하는 과정의 일부입니다.

물의 순환 과정을 간단히 4단계로 요약하면 이렇습니다:

• 증발 (evaporation)  : 바다·강의 물이 수증기로 변함
• 응결 (condensation) : 수증기가 하늘에서 구름을 이룸
• 강수 (precipitation) : 구름이 무거워지면 비나 눈이 됨
• 유입 (collection) : 땅으로 내린 물이 다시 흘러감

이러한 자연의 순환 덕분에 우리는 매일 물을 마시고, 씻고, 농사를 지을 수 있어요.

그렇다면…
우리가 매일 쓰는 물이 ‘지구’에 어떻게 생기게 되었을까요?
TED-Ed 영상은 두 가지 주요 이론을 소개합니다.

그런데 이렇게 중요한 물이 대체 지구에 어떻게 생기게 된 걸까요?

 

1. 과학자들은 지구의 물이 두 가지 출처에서 왔다고 생각합니다.

• 화산 폭발: 초기 지구 내부의 수증기가 화산 폭발을 통해 대기로 방출되었고,
  이 수증기가 식으며 비로 변해 바다가 형성되었습니다.
• 운석(comet)과 소행성(asteroid): 우주에서 날아온 소행성이나 혜성 속 얼음이 지구와 충돌하면서 물을 공급했다는 이론도 있습니다.

🔍 특히, 탄소질 콘드라이트(carbonaceous chondrites)라는 오래된 운석에서
지구의 물과 유사한 수소 동위원소가 발견되었다는 연구도 소개됩니다.

 

 

 

👉🏻지구는 적절한 크기, 거리, 온도, 중력을 가진 덕분에
물이 증발해도 다시 붙잡을 수 있었고, 액체 상태로 존재할 수 있었습니다.
